Details of extra-curricular activities organised by the Department:
S1 and S2 Languages club organised by S6 Language Prefects. Every Monday at 1.15pm in Modern Languages Department.
Debating Club organised by Mrs Scarse: Fortnightly on Thursdays at lunchtime
 
 
 Additional information: 

 
French is compulsory from S1 to S4. Examinations at Intermediate 2 and Intermediate 1 level are offered at the end of S4. Pupils may then opt to do Higher French and continue to Advanced Higher level in S6.
 
German examinations will be done at Higher and Intermediate 2 level in 2009 and only at Higher level in 2010. After that German will no longer be an option, due to change of personnel in the Department.
 
Spanish is a new option this year in the Modern Languages Department.
A taster course is offered in S2; then pupils may choose Spanish as one of their S3 options. Examinations will be offered at Intermediate 2 level in 2010 and Intermediate 1 level if required. The first presentations for the present S3 group at Higher level will be in 2011.
Higher Spanish has been an option for S6 pupils for many years. Pupils do a one year intensive course and are presented at “Higher” level.
 
Teaching of French to Primary classes is done by Language specialists. Primary 6 and Primary 7 have received French instruction from the Modern Languages Department for many years. Each class has 2 periods of French per week. From August 2008 all other primary classes receive a minimum of 25 minutes of French teaching per week.
