Assessment Reports & Communication

In the Secondary Department, assessment is continuous for the majority of the time in order to build up a profile of performance in each subject. In addition to this ongoing assessment, term tests are held for First and Second Year pupils in December and May.

Reports are issued after each of these examinations and give a detailed account of the pupil’s performance both in the examination itself and in work completed throughout the term.

There are two Parents’ Evenings for First Year. The first is held at the beginning of the academic session to allow parents and pupils to meet the Secondary Deparment’s staff members. The second, held later in the year, is a progress report. There is one Parents’ Evening in the Second Year before the finalisation of course choices for Third Year.

Third and Fourth year pupils are once again assessed on a continuous basis. Reports are issued twice a year and the first of these is followed by a Parents’ Evening. The first report is based on assessment throughout the term while the second follows a formal examination in the second term for Fourth Year and in May for Third Year.

In Fifth Year, two reports are issued – one in November, and the other later in the year after the preliminary examinations. The Parents’ Evening for each year group is held after the first report.

At all Parents’ Evenings, the Head Teacher and Depute Head Teacher are available for consultation. The Depute Head has overall responsibility for the care of pupils in S1-S3 and the Head Teacher conducts the same duties for pupils in S4-S6. Parents wishing to speak to any member of staff out with these evenings are welcome to do so and can make an appointment by telephoning the school Office Manager.
