Medical Matters
Upon entry of any child to the Primary or Secondary Department of the School, a “pupil details” form is issued to parents. This form requests information on any medical condition of the pupil which should be drawn to our attention. It is also important that we are given an emergency contact number so that in the event of a child taking suddenlytaking ill, we can contact a parent or relative as quickly as possible. The medical form is re-issued for verification of accuracy at the beginning of each session. Please ensure that we are informed of any medication which has to be taken by a pupil during the course of the school day.
The school receives scheduled visits from the Schools’ Medical Service and pupils are offered regular medical examinations in addition to the inoculations and immunisations recommended at various stages. The nurse who visits the School on these occasions is always willing to give advice where it is sought.
Parents are informed immediately if there is an accident within the school. Superficial injuries will be treated by the member of staff responsible for this area. More serious injuries are referred immediately to hospital. If parents are unable to reach the School within a short time, children can be taken directly to hospital but parents will always be notified of this decision. We currently have two members of staff who have received training in First Aid by the British Red Cross Society.
Office staff may provide pupils with paracetamol when required, but only if permission is granted by the pupil’s parent. Medicines which must be taken at specified times can be left with office staff and will be issued as instructed. Only medicines with clear instructions and written permission can be given by office staff.
