Welcome to the Fernhill School Parent Council

With the formation of the Parent Council in 2010, we hope that parents can now be more fully involved with the School and that we can all be part of the success of Fernhill working alongside the Head Teacher, the staff of the School and the Board of Governors.

The aims of the Parent Council are:

• To promote partnership between the school, its pupils, all parents and carers and the Catholic Church to ensure that all pupils reach their full potential.
• To work in partnership with the school to create a welcoming community which is inclusive for all parents & carers.
• To identify and represent the views of parents & carers on the education provided by the school and other matters affecting the education and welfare of the pupils.

The Objectives of the Parent Council are:

• Implement & conduct methods of consultation with parents & carers.
• Contribute to school handbook and website with relevant information.
• Have a presence at school events such as Open Evenings etc.
• Establish a method of communication between parents & carers and the school via a direct email address to the School Council.
• Liaise with other groups, PTA and Board of Governors.
• Act as ambassadors in promoting the school.

Since our formation we have worked closely with the school on many things including the introduction of hot meals, the opening of an After School & Nursery Service. We have also used the expertise of our members to conduct a parent Q & A, which has helped the school and the Board to develop how they communicate with parents.

We have more than a dozen members representing most of the stages of the school, but are always keen for new members to join. Parents are welcome to attend any of our meetings, which are held monthly in the school maths department.

The Parent Council looks forward to representing you and hopes that we can all be part of the success of Fernhill by working alongside the Head Teacher, Mr Robert O’Donnell, the staff of the school and the Board of Governors.
